Eating The Heavenly Donut Company

It was time for a Daddy Daughter Donut Date, and I knew the best place to go would be The Heavenly Donut Co. in Vestavia Hills. Every time I drive by or visit The Heavenly Donut Co. (THDC) I cannot help but to think of my favorite Daddy Daughter Donut Date place in Baton Rouge that is ironically named Thee Heavenly Donut on Highland Road. I won't be comparing the two in this post.

Looks like they have donut truck, but I couldn't find a schedule on the website. Will have to look for it though if it is in your area.

A well stocked and large selection of donuts await you at THDC. Christian music greets your ears which I enjoyed and is something you should expect from a place with "heaven" in its name.

While they all appear delicious they are not all properly labeled, and some where not labeled at all. In many cases the donuts spoke for themselves in regards to what flavors they offered. These peanut butter cup covered donuts were obviously not a sour cream old fashion.

These were labeled Reese's cup, but I can only assume that they were actually peanut butter cup donuts, and they candy covered donuts were actually the Reese's cup. Either way, you have two peanut butter cup donut options here. That is what I call a win win.

Sophie went with the strawberry frosted donut. A typical choice for her. She loves strawberries, and eats them almost everyday. She noted that the frosting has little pieces of strawberries in it. I was glad to hear the frosting was flavored with fruit instead flavoring. Not for health reasons, but just because it tastes better.

I went with the peanut butter candy donut and a regular glazed.

I like that the peanut butter candy donut is first covered in chocolate. This not only adheres the candy to the donut, but also provides a decadent chocolate experience for your sweet tooth. While the candy portions are extreme generous on this donut, I did wonder if it was actually Reese's being used.

Now to the glazed donut. As some of the first customers in the store that morning I was hoping to get warm glazed donuts. I know this is not Krispy Kreme, so I wasn't expecting hot, but who doesn't like a fresh warm glazed donut. While well glazed and a nice crispy exterior, the glazed donut was just pretty basic to me. I know that sounds obvious, but I do think that the glazed donut can be the brightest star in the whole display case.

But I didn't come here just for the donuts, but to make memories with my daughter. In this regard, THDC shines above all others. Sophie loves art, so we sat by these paintings that are for sale.

Sophie could hardly wait to enjoy the games and books that were on display.

She went straight to Jenga and we had a blast laughing and building teetering towers build on smiles and misplaced wooden logs. This is what it is all about. THDC provides and environment where you will want to bring your entire family over and over again to enjoy sweet treats and quality time together.

Alton Brown seems to think the donuts here are pretty good as well!

Conclusion:
I love the variety at THDC. I wish they had better drink options for kids though. For juice you have to order a giant bottle or get nothing at all. These donuts are definitely heavenly, but I think the focus is variety and family atmosphere over a gourmet and elevated experience. Which to be honest, I think is a good thing. I also wonder if it is possible to get warm glazed donut, or if I just missed out on my visit. I'll be back either way!
